US country music artist Bailey Zimmerman is the subject of an arrest warrant issued in New Mexico, following allegations of significant damage to a hotel room. The incident is said to have occurred after a planned concert was cancelled in May, with the singer now facing charges of felony criminal damage to property and a misdemeanor charge of falsely obtaining services.
Court documents filed in Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court, and reported by The Independent, indicate that Zimmerman, 26, is accused of causing more than £12,600 (approximately $16,000 USD) in damage to a room at the Sandia Resort and Casino in Albuquerque. The alleged destruction took place after his May 27th performance at the resort was called off. Although the warrant was issued last Thursday, Zimmerman has not yet been taken into custody.
The "Backup Plan" singer has since released a statement, addressing both the alleged behaviour and the concert cancellation. As reported by TMZ, Zimmerman apologised to the Pueblo of Sandia and the resort, stating, "I am deeply sorry for my actions that transpired. I respect your community and the hospitality and appreciate the opportunity that was given to me to perform on Native Land. I take full accountability for everything that happened and I am sorry to anyone who feels hurt or disrespected." He also extended an apology to his fans, acknowledging he "fell short that day" and is "reflecting on the disappointment and concern that I caused."
According to court documents, hotel staff reported a sequence of events leading up to the concert's cancellation. Security personnel at Sandia informed investigators that Zimmerman appeared intoxicated, was reportedly angry with his band and manager, and exhibited disruptive behaviour during sound check, including swinging a guitar and throwing a microphone. He then returned to his hotel room, leading to the cancellation of the concert. The following day, police were called again when security and housekeeping staff discovered the room extensively damaged, with items such as a TV, phone, coffee table, and walls reportedly affected, alongside missing chairs and an unpaid alcohol bill.
Bailey Zimmerman rose to prominence in the country music scene with hits like "Fall In Love" and "Rock and A Hard Place," achieving considerable success in the US. While his music is widely available for streaming in the UK on platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, this legal development marks a significant challenge to his public image. The UK country music scene, though smaller than in the US, has a dedicated following, with artists and events often drawing inspiration from American counterparts. Zimmerman has not received specific UK industry recognition like a BRIT Award or BAFTA, which typically focus on British talent.
