Muskan Rastogi, 26, and Sahil Shukla, 28, have been sentenced to death for the murder of Ms Rastogi's husband, Saurabh Rajput, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. A court in Meerut city convicted them on 30 September for the 2025 murder.
Mr Rajput's body was recovered from a large blue plastic storage container, locally known as a drum, leading to the case being referred to as "the blue drum murder".
The prosecution stated in court that Ms Rastogi and Mr Shukla were school classmates who grew close while Mr Rajput worked in London. Police said Mr Rajput was given food laced with sedatives by Ms Rastogi before he was killed on 3 March 2025, during a visit to Meerut.
Ms Rastogi and Mr Shukla were arrested and charged after Ms Rastogi confessed to the crime during interrogation. The death sentences issued on Wednesday require confirmation by the high court, and Ms Rastogi and Mr Shukla have the option to challenge the verdict.
