Caleb Yirenkyi, Coventry's £26m record signing, is set to make his Premier League debut on Friday against Arsenal. The 20-year-old Ghana midfielder joined Coventry after his country's last-32 exit in the United States World Cup.
Yirenkyi's journey to the Premier League follows his time at Danish Superliga club FC Nordsjælland, where he was crowned young player of the year last season. He won possession more times than any other player in the Superliga, with 205.
Frank Lampard, Coventry's manager, discussed Yirenkyi with his former Chelsea teammate Michael Essien, who is part of Nordsjælland's coaching staff. Essien noted glimpses of himself in Yirenkyi's play, while Lampard also sees parallels with N'Golo Kanté's qualities.
Yirenkyi, who previously excelled at building robots, returned a week early from his post-World Cup break in mid-July to join FC Nordsjælland's pre-season camp. He was told by physios he needed more rest, leading him to operate a drone recording training sessions.
