Work is scheduled to commence on enhancing access and wildlife habitats at Longford Nature Park in Coventry. The city council has designated this small reserve as being of high importance to the city.
The planned improvements include installing a new boardwalk across muddy areas, undertaking litter-picking, and creating shallow wetland habitats. Funding for this work comes from Section 106 money, which developers pay to councils for significant development projects in the area.
Councillor Patricia Hetherton stated that these improvements aim to protect the park's existing biodiversity and facilitate public access to nature. She added that "Green spaces like Longford Park play an important role in supporting our health and wellbeing."
Longford Park serves as both a nature reserve and a public path, connecting the Coventry Building Society Arena and the Coventry Canal. The council's urban ranger team will carry out the project, collaborating with volunteers from the Friends of Longford Park.
