The bank accounts and assets of disgraced funeral director Robert Bush have been frozen as prosecutors work to recover money from his victims. Bush was jailed for 20 years at Hull Crown Court on Friday for 67 offences.
These offences included denying 30 people a decent burial and providing families with the ashes of strangers. Bush, 48, who operated Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull, also stole up to £12,000 from charities and sold fraudulent funeral plans.
Laura Tams KC, deputy chief crown prosecutor at the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), stated that they will examine the financial aspects of the case to confiscate proceeds of his crimes and attempt to compensate families. Mr Justice Hilliard, in sentencing Bush, noted that he "benefited very substantially" and "obviously lived very well."
Investigators found that families had been misled by Bush since 2012. The total amount of money paid into Legacy and Bush's personal accounts between 2017 and 2024 exceeded £3.5 million.
