Dani Olmo reflects on Spain's World Cup win and Barcelona's Champions League ambitions

Spain midfielder Dani Olmo has spoken about the impact of winning the World Cup on 19 July in New Jersey, and how it is inspiring Barcelona's Champions League campaign.

  • Spain defeated Argentina on 19 July in New Jersey to become world champions.
  • Eight Barcelona players were part of Spain's 26-man World Cup squad.
  • Barcelona's Champions League campaign for the current season begins against Feyenoord at Camp Nou on Wednesday night.

Dani Olmo, the Spain midfielder, has shared his experience of becoming a world champion on 19 July in New Jersey, when Spain beat Argentina. Olmo described the emotional moment of realising the victory, stating, "It changes you, changes your life."

Olmo believes that the World Cup triumph can inspire Barcelona's quest for Champions League success. He noted that eight players from Spain's World Cup-winning squad were from Barcelona. The club's European campaign for the current season is set to begin on Wednesday night against Feyenoord at Camp Nou.

Barcelona has not won the Champions League since June 2015. Olmo, who returned to Barcelona in 2024, helped the team to a domestic treble in his first season back and they were champions again last year. Despite recent domestic success, the team was defeated in the semi-finals and quarter-finals of the Champions League in the last two years.
