  • Charlie Dean will captain England for the three-match ODI series against Ireland.

Charlie Dean has been named captain for England's one-day international series against Ireland, scheduled for September. Regular captain Nat Sciver-Brunt will miss the series, along with Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Bell, and Amy Jones, as senior players are rested.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Sciver-Brunt are absent to manage their fitness and recovery. The 15-player squad includes two uncapped players: 24-year-old seam bowler Grace Potts and 27-year-old wicketkeeper Kira Chathli. All-rounder Charis Pavely could make her 50-over debut, having previously played two T20s against Ireland in 2024.

Pace bowler Ryana MacDonald-Gay, who last played for England in the Ashes in early 2025, is also included. Eighteen-year-old spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman, a joint-leading wicket-taker in this season's Hundred, has also been selected.

Head coach Charlotte Edwards stated that the series is an important opportunity for players to display their 50-over skills and gain valuable experience, following a focus on T20 cricket this year.

Why this matters: The series provides an opportunity for new and less experienced players to gain international experience in the 50-over format and push for future selection.
