Demand for female tradespeople is increasing, with one platform, TaskHer, reporting that enquiries have more than doubled so far this year compared to 2025. The number of tradeswomen registering on the site has almost quadrupled within the same period.
This rise coincides with an increase in DIY content online, which some believe is inspiring more women to undertake home improvement tasks themselves or consider a career in trades. A 2024 B&Q report indicated that around three-quarters of Gen Z women enjoy DIY, compared to 60% of all female respondents.
Despite these trends, women currently constitute approximately 4% of the UK's construction workforce. However, there are signs of growth, with women making up one in 10 construction apprenticeship starters in 2024-25, an increase from about one in 14 five years earlier.
