Derek Wilson Reappointed as Sports Grounds Safety Authority Chair

Derek Wilson has been reappointed as Chair of the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) Board for a third term.

  • Derek Wilson's third term as SGSA Chair will run from 1 April 2027 to 31 March 2030.
  • The reappointment was made by the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
  • The Chair of the SGSA is remunerated at £36,260 per annum.

Derek Wilson has been reappointed as Chair of the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) Board for a third term. The Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport confirmed the reappointment, which will see Mr Wilson serve from 1 April 2027 to 31 March 2030.

Mr Wilson has a 30-year career as a specialist sports architect, with expertise in stadium design, safety, accessibility, and major events. His experience includes work on five Olympic and Paralympic Games, including serving as Head of Design and Overlay for London 2012.

He has also contributed to projects for clubs such as Arsenal FC and Everton FC, and has been an accessibility advisor to the Premier League since 2014. The Chair of the Sports Grounds Safety Authority receives an annual remuneration of £36,260.
