Development consent granted for Morgan and Morecambe wind farm transmission assets

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has granted development consent for the transmission assets of the Morgan and Morecambe Offshore Wind Farms.

  • The decision was made by Baroness Curran on behalf of the Energy Secretary.
  • The application was submitted in October 2024 and examined within statutory timescales.
  • This is the 113th energy application out of 181 examined by the Planning Inspectorate to date.

Development consent has been granted for the transmission assets associated with the Morgan Offshore Wind Project and the Morecambe Offshore Windfarm. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero announced the decision today, 14 September 2026.

The project includes offshore and onshore export cables, onshore landfall infrastructure, onshore substations, and grid connection cables. The application was submitted by Morgan Offshore Wind Limited and Morecambe Offshore Windfarm Limited on 21 October 2024 and accepted for examination on 18 November 2024.

The Planning Inspectorate completed the examination within the statutory timescale, making recommendations to the Secretary of State on 29 January 2026. Local communities and interested parties participated in the six-month examination process. Baroness Curran made the decision on behalf of the Energy Secretary's legal authority.
