Novak Djokovic has claimed his 102nd career title at the China Open after opponent Alex de Minaur retired injured during the final. Djokovic, 39, was leading 7-6 (7-3) 0-1 when the 27-year-old Australian withdrew with an apparent left thigh problem.

This victory marks the 21st consecutive year Djokovic has won at least one singles title. Only Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103) have won more singles titles in their careers than the Serb.

In a separate tournament, Carlos Alcaraz, 25, won the Japan Open, successfully defending his title in Tokyo. This is Alcaraz's third title of the season, following his wins at the Australian Open in January and the Qatar Open in February. He returned to competitive tennis at August's US Open after injuring his wrist in April.
