A new British documentary, 'Derek vs Derek', explores the differing views on land management between two neighbours in Devon. The film focuses on Derek Gow, a conservationist who has rewilded his land, and Derek Banbury, a traditional farmer.
Both men own roughly 120 hectares of land that abuts each other near Dartmoor. Gow, who previously farmed sheep, has introduced wild boar to his land to restore biodiversity. Banbury, a dairy farmer, rears cows and plants crops, with his son set to inherit the farm.
The documentary, directed by James Dawson, examines debates surrounding environmental damage, agriculture, and the countryside. It reportedly shows the antagonism between the two men evolving into a more agreeable coexistence, with Banbury seemingly influenced by Gow's arguments regarding declining insect populations, particularly pollinators.
