A dramatic rescue operation was carried out on Ben Nevis over the weekend, after a black Labrador collapsed on the trail due to suspected cannabis ingestion. Christina Bluhme, the dog's owner, was hiking with her pet Tokyo when the incident occurred. Bluhme, a dog trainer from Esher in Surrey, said Tokyo had made a full recovery after the incident and praised the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team for their professionalism and kindness during the rescue.
Tokyo, a usually very fit and active working dog, had lost the use of her legs and began drifting in and out of consciousness before being stretchered down the 4,413ft mountain peak by the rescue team. Bluhme was unable to carry her pet down the mountain on her own, but the team came to their aid, bringing Tokyo to a local vet in Fort William. The vet team has confirmed that the dog made a full recovery.
The incident has raised awareness about the dangers of discarded cannabis and other toxic substances found in the outdoors. Bluhme has urged fellow dog owners to be vigilant and aware of potential hazards when hiking with their pets. The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team has also praised the local vet team in Fort William for their support and dedication.
The rescue operation was a testament to the bravery and skill of the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, who have been praised for their work in saving the dog's life. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of being prepared and aware of potential hazards when hiking in the outdoors.
