A new film titled 'Tony' delves into the formative youthful kitchen experiences of chef Anthony Bourdain, drawing from the initial chapters of his bestselling memoir, 'Kitchen Confidential'. Canadian filmmaker Matt Johnson directs the movie, which stars Dominic Sessa as the young college student Tony.
Set in the mid-1970s, the story follows Tony as he runs away from home after failing to secure a summer writing scholarship. He arrives in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and eventually takes a job as a dishwasher, where he is mentored by a chef played by Antonio Banderas.
The film also features Emilia Jones as Nancy and Leo Woodall as chef Sal. Reviewers note that the movie's feelgood narrative is complicated by the later knowledge of Bourdain's death in 2018.
