Dr David Lacey Appointed UK Honorary Consul in Penang

Dr David Lacey has been appointed as the new British Honorary Consul in Penang. He takes over from Dato’ Robert Hawkins MBE, who has retired after serving in the role for 20 years.

As Honorary Consul, Lacey will work to strengthen political, academic, and commercial relationships for the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur. His duties will include collaborating with Penang state government leaders and the local business community.

Lacey will also carry out consular responsibilities, such as visiting British nationals in hospitals or prisons, assisting with arrangements following the death of a British citizen, and supporting the UK's response during crises. H.E. Ajay Sharma CMG, British High Commissioner to Malaysia, stated that Lacey will also support the High Commission in working with Penang and the northern region in the technology, digital, and artificial intelligence sectors.

Lacey is an experienced semiconductor industry leader with a background in Europe, the USA, and Malaysia. He has lived in Penang since 2001 and is currently a Director at a high-tech semiconductor business there.
