The UK is set to experience drier weather this weekend as high pressure builds, bringing an end to the heavy downpours that caused some flash flooding this week. Many areas can expect sunny spells across Saturday and Sunday, with daytime temperatures climbing.
However, nights will turn notably chilly. Friday night is predicted to see temperatures fall to 3-4C in some rural parts of Scotland and northern England. Chilly nights will persist over the weekend, but lighter winds and more sunshine will contribute to rising daytime temperatures.
By Sunday, afternoon highs are forecast to reach 16-20C in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and 19-25C in England and Wales, which is around or slightly above the seasonal norm. While a few scattered light showers are possible in the north and west, most of the UK will be dry with a mix of patchy cloud and sunshine.
Despite the recent heavy rain, the National Drought Group announced on Thursday that it will now meet weekly to coordinate the ongoing response to the intensifying drought. Over two-thirds of England and all of Wales are currently in drought, with officials stating that the situation is still worsening.
