A father convicted of causing the death of his seven-month-old daughter in a drink-driving collision has absconded after being sentenced to 15 years in prison. Emmanuel Sakyi, 31, of Garraways, Milton Keynes, was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving following a trial and was sentenced in his absence at Aylesbury Crown Court on Monday.
The incident occurred on 4 December 2022, in Milton Keynes, when Sakyi's grey Peugeot 508 collided head-on with a green Fiat 500. Jurors heard during the trial that Sakyi was driving on the wrong side of the road for a "considerable distance" and was twice the legal alcohol limit. Despite the driver of the oncoming Fiat flashing her lights and sounding her horn in an attempt to avert the crash, Sakyi failed to react.
His daughter, Emmanuela, who was sitting on her mother's lap in the passenger seat, sustained severe injuries in the collision. She was transported to Milton Keynes University Hospital but was pronounced dead at 03:32 GMT on 5 December. A post-mortem examination later confirmed her cause of death as "blunt force abdominal trauma."
Following the crash, Sakyi fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended by officers outside his residence. Thames Valley Police have now launched a search for Sakyi, describing him as black, of medium build, and approximately 5ft 3in tall. Detective Sergeant Ed Crofts, from Thames Valley Police's serious collision investigation unit, described the case as "devastating" and emphasised the force's commitment to ensuring Sakyi faces the consequences of his actions.
Members of the public are strongly advised not to approach Sakyi if they see him. Instead, they should immediately contact the police by dialling 999. Anyone with information regarding Sakyi's whereabouts is asked to call 101 or submit a report online, quoting reference 20260622-2396.
