An 89-year-old driver received a £60 parking fine from Napier Parking Ltd after spending eight minutes in Swan Lane car park, Haverhill, attempting to pay before leaving.

An 89-year-old driver has been issued a £60 parking fine after spending eight minutes in a Haverhill car park trying to pay before deciding to leave. Roland Nice, who had used the Swan Lane car park in Haverhill, Suffolk, for 30 years, entered the car park on 7 August.
Mr Nice stated he struggled to understand how to pay for parking, so he drove out of the car park and parked elsewhere. A few days later, he received a £60 fine from the car park operator, Napier Parking Ltd.
Napier Parking Ltd informed the BBC that motorists are given a five-minute grace period to decide whether to park or not. The company also stated that the car park accepts coins, contactless card payments, and payments via the RingGo app.
