The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) staff have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to the UK's defence capabilities in the latest King's Birthday Honours. Among the honours, Nicholas Goddard, a principal scientist, has been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his work on underwater systems, including current and future generation submarines. Goddard's research and development efforts have significantly advanced the UK's understanding and national defence capability.
The VCDS commended Nick Barrett and another Dstl employee for their contributions to Defence, highlighting their technical leadership, mentoring, and oversight to Dstl staff currently deployed on and supporting operations. The Dstl BRAKESTOP team, comprising scientists and engineers, gained a VCDS team award for their contribution to the UK's first ground-launched cruise missile trial in over three decades. This landmark achievement has accelerated understanding and significantly advanced national Defence capability.
The Dstl Chemical Analysis and Attribution Team, Sense Analysis and Attribution Team, and Cyber & Specialist Operations Command, Deputy Commander (3*) Team were also recognised by the VCDS for their critical support to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. The Dstl Chemical Biological and Radiological (CBR) Programme team was awarded a commendation for their pivotal role in delivering the training and expertise required to support Defence's Counter-CBRN capabilities.
