An 18-year-old man has died after getting into difficulty in the River Nith in Dumfries. Benjamin Glen, from the local area, passed away on Thursday evening following the incident, which occurred just days after he celebrated his 18th birthday.
Emergency services, including Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, were called to a stretch of the river in Dumfries following reports of a person in difficulty. Despite rescue efforts, Mr Glen was recovered from the water and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Scotland confirmed the death and stated that enquiries into the full circumstances of the incident are ongoing. As is standard procedure in such cases, a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
