Scotland's most decorated Commonwealth Games athlete, Duncan Scott, has delivered a golden start for Team Scotland at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. The 29-year-old swimmer took gold in the 200m individual medley, setting a new Games record with a time of 1:56.38.
The event, held at Tollcross, saw Scott face stiff competition from his training partner and friend, Tom Dean, who took bronze. Dean, who has struggled with injury, praised Scott's performance, stating that he 'had an incredible front end to that race'.
Scott's win has sparked a promising start for Team Scotland, with the athlete admitting that he felt the weight of expectation on his shoulders. However, he remained composed, saying 'I don't usually feel expectation, but that one I probably did'.
Scott's medal win comes just over 12 years after he won his first Commonwealth medal at the same venue. The Alloa native has now taken his 14th Commonwealth Games medal, with this one being his fourth gold.
With the Commonwealth Games now underway, Scott's win will undoubtedly give Team Scotland a boost of confidence as they look to make a strong showing in the competition.
