Guidance for providers supporting apprentices with learning difficulties and disabilities has been updated by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The DWP took over responsibility for this guidance on 1 April 2026.
The updated guidance includes new information on English and maths flexibilities. Providers can now offer apprentices the option to study English and maths at a lower level, even if the apprentice does not have an education, health and care plan. This change reflects apprenticeship funding rules for 2024 to 2025.
Additionally, the guidance has been updated to cover supporting learners undertaking apprenticeship units and how providers can claim reasonable adjustment costs for these units. It also outlines how providers should assess and identify needs, and how to claim learning support funding.
