East Midlands Railway (EMR) has suspended some services today, 12 August, and tomorrow, 13 August, as temperatures are expected to soar. The operator recommends passengers travel before midday where temperatures are cooler.
On Wednesday, the Liverpool Lime Street/Nottingham/Norwich route will operate only between Norwich and Sheffield. On Thursday, trains between Nottingham and Worksop, and services on the Nottingham – Leicester Regional stopping route, will not run from midday. The Nottingham/Mansfield/Worksop route will also be withdrawn from midday.
EMR's Intercity services are not affected by the hot weather but are operating on a reduced timetable for consistency. The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for extreme heat for parts of England on Thursday, with temperatures forecast to peak at 36C.
West Midlands Railway (WMR) services are also impacted. On the Chase Line, buses will replace trains between Rugeley Trent Valley and Hednesford from 1pm to 8pm on Wednesday and Thursday. The Stourbridge Town Car will be cancelled from 12 noon to 7pm, with rail replacement buses running. There will also be a reduced service on WMR services through Birmingham Snow Hill, with services between Kidderminster and Whitlocks End not operating.
