Easyjet has extended the deadline for asset manager Castlelake to submit another takeover bid. This move aligns Castlelake's deadline with that of rival bidder Apollo, with both firms now required to make a firm offer or announce their withdrawal by 5pm on 7 August.
The budget airline stated on Monday that it is still prepared to recommend Apollo's deal to shareholders, which values Easyjet's stock at £7.15 per share. Easyjet described Apollo's offer as "an attractive combination of value, strategic alignment and long-term stewardship of the business."
Easyjet previously rejected multiple offers from Castlelake before agreeing to a now-surpassed bid that valued the airline at approximately £5.5bn. The interest in the London-listed firm has led to a significant stock rally, with Easyjet shares increasing over 40% since the beginning of June, now trading around 623p.
A confirmed deal would see Easyjet delist from the London Stock Exchange. The airline noted it is uncertain whether any firm offer will ultimately be made.
