A major wildfire is currently burning on Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh, causing significant disruption to the area. The fire broke out below Salisbury Crags at around 6:40pm on Sunday, and a huge plume of white smoke could be seen from as far away as Fife.
Five fire appliances were quickly dispatched to the scene, with firefighters seen dousing the flames. Police Scotland has closed Queens Drive to all vehicles to ensure public safety.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has been battling wildfires across the country, with a major blaze ongoing in the Cairngorms National Park for the past four days. Hundreds of firefighters, two helicopters, and specialist resources have been deployed to the area to combat the fire, which has affected four square kilometres of land and resulted in the evacuation of homes and businesses.
The SFRS has been using a high volume pump to draw water from Loch Morlich to support firefighting efforts. The cause of the Arthur's Seat fire is currently unknown, and an investigation is underway.
Residents in the area have been advised to stay indoors and keep windows closed due to the smoke. The SFRS is urging the public to avoid the area until the fire is brought under control.
