Eight dead, including three children, in Russian strikes on Ukraine

Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine have reportedly killed eight people, including a six-year-old girl and two boys aged 11 and 17. The attacks also caused damage to homes and businesses.

  • Eight people, including three children, have died in Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated Russia launched over 70 missiles and 280 drones overnight.
  • A suspected Russian missile also crashed into a field in eastern Poland, according to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Eight people, including a six-year-old girl and two boys aged 11 and 17, have died during a Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine, according to local officials. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia launched more than 70 missiles and over 280 drones at the country overnight.

The worst attack occurred near Zelensky's hometown of Kryvyi Rih, where six people were killed when a Russian ballistic missile hit the village of Radushne. Local defence council chief Oleksandr Vilkul stated the missile struck a home where a large family lived, destroying two private homes. Another eight people were wounded, including an 84-year-old woman and two children pulled from rubble.

In Kyiv, one person died and fires broke out in three non-residential buildings, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The mayor of Poltava also reported a death after a postal terminal was attacked. Explosions were reported in Lviv, with residential buildings damaged and multiple people injured.

Separately, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said an object that crashed into a field in eastern Poland was probably a Russian missile. Ukraine's acting Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha had earlier stated a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile had "crossed into Poland as part of Russia's massive strike against Ukraine, violating Nato airspace."

Why this matters: The attacks highlight ongoing conflict and the reported civilian casualties, including children, underscore the human cost. The alleged violation of Polish airspace by a Russian missile could raise concerns about regional security.
