England Cricket Squad Prepares for Pakistan Tri-Series Amid World Cup Focus

England's cricket team is heading to Pakistan for a tri-series, with their campaign starting on Tuesday in Rawalpindi, as they focus on One-Day Internationals ahead of next year's 50-over World Cup.

  • England's ODI campaign in the tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka begins on Tuesday in Rawalpindi.
  • Will Jacks is England's leading wicket-taker in ODIs this year and is now an established finisher.
  • Jofra Archer is rested, while Jacob Bethell and Jos Buttler are out due to injury.

England's cricket squad is set to begin their tri-series campaign in Pakistan on Tuesday in Rawalpindi. The team will face Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the One-Day International (ODI) format, with a strong emphasis on preparations for the 50-over World Cup, which is less than a year away.

After a period of poor performance in the format, including a World Cup defence in late 2023 and a winless Champions Trophy in early 2025, England has seen an upturn in form. Harry Brook and Brendon McCullum have overseen three consecutive series wins this year.

Will Jacks, who made his international debut four years ago in Pakistan, has become a key player, now established as a finisher and England's leading wicket-taker in ODIs this year. He will be bowling off-breaks alongside Adil Rashid, with Mason Crane also a potential option.

Jofra Archer has been rested for the series, while Jacob Bethell and Jos Buttler are unavailable due to injuries. Tom Banton and Jordan Cox, who were key replacements in a recent deciding ODI against Sri Lanka, are expected to feature.

Youngsters Thomas Rew, 18, and Eddie Jack, 21, will tour Australia next month for the shortest form of the game but have not been selected for the ODI leg of the tour. James Coles and Henry Crocombe are uncapped picks, with Crocombe receiving a two-year central contract.

Why this matters: This tri-series is a crucial part of England's preparations for the 50-over World Cup, which is less than a year away, allowing them to refine their ODI strategy and player combinations.
