England's strong performance at this summer's World Cup, where they secured third place, has led to increased demand for their players in the transfer market, particularly defenders. Four of the nine defenders who were part of the World Cup squad are potentially on the move this summer, with two deals already confirmed or imminent.
Trevoh Chalobah has completed a transfer to Italian side Como for an initial £25.7m, with an additional £5.1m possible in add-ons. Djed Spence is reportedly on the verge of joining Inter Milan for £25.6m. John Stones, available on a free transfer after a successful spell at Manchester City, is also expected to move to Inter Milan.
Meanwhile, Ezri Konsa is a target for Arsenal, who are in need of a high-level replacement due to William Saliba's injury. Aston Villa is reportedly holding out for nearly double Arsenal's £30m bid for Konsa.
Looking back further, Marc Guehi moved to Manchester City in January for £20m, and Jarell Quansah transferred to Bayer Leverkusen in July 2025 for £35m. This means six of England's World Cup defenders could have switched teams in just over a year.
