England dominate Pakistan at Edgbaston, lead by 23 runs on day one

England bowled out Pakistan for 133 and then reached 156 for four at stumps on day one of their Test match at Edgbaston, taking a 23-run lead.

England asserted dominance over Pakistan on the first day of their Test match at Edgbaston, bowling out the visitors for 133. Josh Tongue claimed four wickets for 42 runs, while Ollie Robinson and Jofra Archer shared six wickets.

Robinson, who took his 100th Test wicket during the innings, finished with figures of three for 15 from 11 overs. His career average of 19.1 is the best post-war for any bowler with over 100 dismissals.

In response, England reached 156 for four at stumps, holding a 23-run lead. Emilio Gay contributed 60 runs, while Harry Brook was unbeaten on 52. Captain Joe Root was dismissed for 21, his tenth lbw dismissal in 13 innings.

Pakistan's top five batsmen were all dismissed for single figures, a first for a Test innings in England. This followed a shake-up in their squad, with four changes made since going 2-0 down in the three-match series.
