England's netball team, the Roses, were defeated 61-54 by New Zealand in the Commonwealth Games semi-final in Glasgow, ending their chance to win the title.

  • England lost 61-54 to New Zealand's Silver Ferns in the semi-final.
  • The Roses will now compete for the bronze medal on Sunday.
  • England's head coach Jess Thirlby resigned in March, with Anna Stembridge stepping in four months before the event.

England's netball team, the Roses, were outplayed by New Zealand's Silver Ferns in the Commonwealth Games semi-final in Glasgow, losing 61-54. This defeat means England will not be able to regain the title they won in 2018.

The Silver Ferns secured their place in the final, their first since 2014, after a dominant performance. England struggled with errors and were consistently chasing the game after a strong start from New Zealand.

Attention now turns to Sunday morning's bronze medal match. England's goal shooter Eleanor Cardwell stated, "Obviously bronze isn't what we came here for, but it's what we're fighting for now."

The team has faced challenges in preparation for Glasgow 2026, including the resignation of head coach Jess Thirlby in March and injuries to key players Helen Housby, Beth Cobden, and Nat Metcalf.
