England's netball team has advanced to the Commonwealth Games semi-finals following a 58-54 win against South Africa. The Roses, who were tied on points with the Proteas in Pool A, needed to avoid defeat to progress.

South Africa initially took a six-goal lead in the first quarter, with Elmere van der Berg scoring 16 of her nation's 17 goals. However, England mounted a comeback, narrowing the deficit to 29-28 by halftime, aided by defensive work from substitute Halimat Adio.

England then established a seven-goal lead in the third quarter, eventually ending it 43-39 ahead. The final quarter saw both teams score 15 goals, with England holding on to secure their place in the last four. This continues their record of qualifying for every Commonwealth Games netball semi-final since the event's inception in 1998.

England is set to play New Zealand in the semi-finals on Saturday, 1 August. South Africa's wait for a semi-final appearance since 1998 continues.
