The England squad has put the pedal to the metal on some well-deserved downtime – courtesy of manager Thomas Tuchel's wise decision to grant them a night off in Miami! After several scorching training sessions in West Palm Beach, where they've been acclimatising to the tournament conditions since June 1st, these hardy heroes are getting their break.
These intense pre-tournament preparations have seen the team hammer home the importance of adapting to the heat and humidity that awaits them in the World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. A trip to Miami serves as the perfect opportunity for a final relaxing evening out before they jet off to Kansas City on Saturday – their base for the duration of the finals.
Just hours after securing a thumping 3-0 win over Costa Rica in Orlando on Wednesday, the squad returned to West Palm Beach for a behind-closed-doors clash with local side Miami United on Thursday. It's been business as usual for Tuchel, who has overseen an atmosphere of relaxed camaraderie at the training camp – think golf tournaments featuring A-listers like Brooks Koepka and Ian Poulter, plus family time and personal breaks after gruelling sessions.
However, come Saturday, that's when things get serious. The team will transition into match mode in Kansas City, with a greater emphasis on prepping for the competition – no more free rein for players to do as they please. Under Tuchel, it seems traditions like allowing families access to the team hotel post-match are set to continue, but expect a tighter ship once they arrive in Kansas City.
