England's netball team, the Roses, have missed out on a place in the Commonwealth Games gold-medal match after a 61-54 semi-final defeat to a powerful New Zealand side. The loss means England will now compete for a bronze medal.
New Zealand, known as the Silver Ferns, established an early lead, holding a 16-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Despite England's efforts to close the deficit, including bringing on Eleanor Cardwell, New Zealand maintained their control, stretching their lead to nine points with 15 minutes remaining.
The Roses will now need to regroup for their bronze-medal match on Sunday, 2 August, scheduled for 09:00 BST. New Zealand will face the winner of the other semi-final between Australia and Jamaica in the gold medal final, set for 13:00 BST on the same day.
