England's Test captaincy future remains uncertain after head coach Brendon McCullum refused to comment on Harry Brook's potential as the next Test captain. McCullum stepped down from his role as Test head coach before the news was announced, but will remain in charge of the white-ball team.
Brook has led England to a 4-0 series win over India in the Vitality Series, with his team thrashing the visitors by 125 runs, nine wickets, and a 56-run margin in their last three games. McCullum praised Brook's growth as a leader, saying he has 'immense' potential and is 'very well respected' in the dressing room.
MCCollum also confirmed that England were allowed to celebrate Saturday's win with a beer, despite new guidelines being sent around following the Rex Rooms incident in Chelsea. He said: 'For a start, there's not many of our guys that actually drink, but anyone that wants a beer, can have a beer.'
Despite Brook's impressive performance, he was overlooked for the Test captaincy in favour of Joe Root at the Kia Oval earlier this year, following an incident in a London nightclub. However, Brook has breathed fresh life into England's white-ball team, winning 20 of his 23 completed T20Is to send them top of the world rankings.
McCullum will leave his role as Test head coach, but his departure has not been officially confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board. The board is currently searching for a new captain to succeed Ben Stokes, who retired from international cricket last month.
