One thing that caught observers' attention was a potential indication of Tuchel's preferred starting line-up for England's opening World Cup fixture against Croatia. A group of ten outfield players – Jude Bellingham, Ezri Konsa, John Stones, Nico O'Reilly, Elliot Anderson, Harry Kane, Anthony Gordon, Declan Rice, Noni Madueke, and Reece James – trained distinctly from the rest of the squad, sparking speculation that Tuchel may stick with a familiar formula for the crucial first game.
However, one concern remains over the fitness of Bukayo Saka. Despite his immense potential, Tuchel has hinted at managing Saka's workload throughout the tournament. And it seems this might be put to the test sooner rather than later – during Saturday's session, Saka trained apart from what appeared to be the presumptive starting group and didn't seem to be moving with complete freedom, raising questions about his immediate involvement.
But England aren't letting a bit of off-field drama get in the way of their preparations. The squad has addressed reports of equipment theft that occurred during the transfer of gear from their pre-tournament camp in Florida to Kansas City – two men have been charged in connection with the incident, which saw an estimated $18,000 worth of property go missing. But despite this minor hiccup, the FA has confirmed that no elite performance equipment was stolen and most of the missing items have been recovered. Dan Burn summed it up best: "It's not really been spoken about, so that just shows for us that they aren't too worried about it – it's not really disrupted our preparations."
Tuchel himself has confirmed that the focus has now shifted from acclimatisation to specific match preparation for their group stage opponents, Croatia, Ghana, and Panama. "We have acclimatised, they have worked hard enough and been exposed to enough heat – we are in a good place," he stated, adding, "The focus is on Croatia, today is about settling in and from tomorrow it's about three days preparation for Croatia." And Captain Harry Kane echoed these sentiments, expressing the team's readiness: "This is where the business starts, this is going to be our home for the next six weeks hopefully – we look forward to getting stuck in!"
