Manchester City are reportedly nearing a £120m agreement to sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea. The 25-year-old midfielder's potential move would make him City's record signing if add-ons are triggered, though the base fee is less than the £116m paid for Elliot Anderson.
Fernandez was notably absent from Chelsea's squad for their Carabao Cup fixture against Luton Town. This came despite manager Xabi Alonso stating the previous day that he expected the Argentina international to be involved. Alonso told Sky Sports before the Luton match, “We assessed situations, individual and collective and we have decided he is not in the squad for today.”
This summer, City's spending on midfielders is set to reach around £300m, marking a significant overhaul following the departures of Pep Guardiola, Rodri, and Bernardo Silva. The club has also recouped approximately £100m from player sales.
