Two individuals who attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan have reported conduct of a sexual nature by Jeffrey Epstein, a former major donor to the institution. This information comes from an investigation that also detailed numerous allegations against nearly 50 other faculty and staff members.
The Interlochen Center for the Arts, which runs a summer camp and performing arts school, commissioned a law firm in 2024 to investigate reports of sexual abuse. The scope of this work was later expanded to include information concerning Epstein, who died in jail in 2019.
The Sanghavi law office, which conducted the investigation, collected 70 accounts from alumni. These accounts allege "physical conduct of a sexual nature" by 47 faculty and staff members affiliated with Interlochen, primarily occurring before 2000, from the 1950s to the 2010s. The 97-page report describes alumni reporting grooming, flirting, sexual touching, and sex.
Interlochen officials have stated they have provided the names of those accused of misconduct to Grand Traverse county authorities in northern Michigan. None of the accused are currently employed at the institution, and over a third are deceased. The school's president, Trey Davey, and board chair, Barrett Rollins, issued a letter expressing deep regret for the harm experienced by the community.
Epstein, who was a camper at Interlochen in 1967 and donated more than $400,000 to the school between 1990 and 2003, had his name removed from a lodge after his 2008 sex offense conviction in Florida. This building, renamed the Green Lake Lodge, has since been demolished.
