Eva Live, a US-based technology firm specialising in live streaming and connectivity solutions, has announced it will acquire a 51% controlling stake in Airbeam Wireless, a fixed wireless access provider, for $16 million (approximately £12.4 million). The transaction is expected to close in the coming weeks, pending standard regulatory approvals.
Airbeam Wireless, which operates in the United States, delivers broadband internet to rural and underserved communities using fixed wireless technology. The deal will give Eva Live direct access to Airbeam's network infrastructure and customer base, as the buyer seeks to broaden its portfolio beyond live video into internet-of-things (IoT) and last-mile connectivity services.
For UK investors, the deal has no direct impact on London-listed equities, but it underscores a broader trend of consolidation in the wireless and telecoms infrastructure space. Analysts have noted that similar acquisitions could emerge in the UK market, where fixed wireless access is gaining traction as an alternative to fibre broadband in remote areas.
Shares in major UK telecoms groups such as BT Group, Vodafone, and Virgin Media O2 were broadly flat on Monday, with the FTSE 100 closing at 8,245 points, down 0.2% on the day. The FTSE 250, which includes mid-cap telecoms and technology firms, fell 0.3% to 20,112 points. Market observers said the Eva Live-Airbeam deal was too small to move indices but reflected growing investor interest in connectivity assets.
“This acquisition is a sign of the times — connectivity is becoming the backbone of digital services, and we are likely to see more M&A in this space as companies jostle for network assets,” said a telecoms analyst at a London-based brokerage, who asked not to be named. “For UK pension holders with exposure to global telecoms funds, it reinforces the value of infrastructure holdings.”
