The wait is over – or at least, that's what we're told by the collective of UK music royalty known as Everyone Says Hi! This supergroup of rockstars, comprised of Nick Hodgson (Kaiser Chiefs), Pete Denton (The Kooks), Ben Gordon (The Dead 60s), and Glenn Moule (Howling Bells) – plus special guest guitarist Oli Swan – is finally back with their highly anticipated sophomore album 'Funny Cos It's True'. And let's be honest, after their promising debut in 2024, anticipation levels are running high. The icing on the cake comes in the form of a brand-new single, 'Don't Underestimate Yourself', which whets our appetite for what's to come.
The group's collective experience is a major selling point – with an impressive pedigree that promises a rich tapestry of sounds and influences. Hodgson himself has revealed that their new album was recorded in the comfort of his own home studio, marking a refreshing departure from traditional recording spaces. This personal touch has clearly rubbed off on the music, which promises to be "intoxicating indie-pop" with a hazy retro edge that's sure to transport fans back to the 1970s.
Lyrically, 'Funny Cos It's True' delves into some heavy stuff – Hodgson's own experiences of losing his father to Alzheimer's in 2011 are woven throughout, as well as reflections on fatherhood and the pressures of modern life. But don't worry, it's not all doom and gloom! The album is said to be a "distinctly new" blend of classic sensibilities with fresh perspectives – and we can't wait to dive in.
The lead single 'Don't Underestimate Yourself' sets the tone perfectly – think swirling soundscapes, rich strings, and guitar work that'll have you head-banging like it's 1999. Hodgson has revealed the track's personal significance as a message of confidence and individuality to his daughter, and we're getting all sorts of feels just thinking about it.
With their UK tour dates kicking off on 25th September at Wax & Beans in Bury (and taking in Leeds, Liverpool, London (Brixton), and Coventry before wrapping up on October 1st), there's no better time to get your tickets. These intimate performances will give you the chance to experience the new material live and up close – so don't miss out!
Pre-order or pre-save 'Funny Cos It's True' now through the band's official channels, and keep an eye out for its release on major streaming platforms and physical formats from 25th September. We're expecting it to be available across Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more – but we'll bring you the exact details as soon as they're confirmed.
