Caleb Flynn, 40, a former pastor and American Idol contestant, is currently on trial for the aggravated murder of his wife, Ashley Flynn. He is accused of fatally shooting her on 16 February.
Evidence presented in court this week included testimony from Alleigha Botner, Flynn's then-lover. Botner stated that Flynn fantasised about killing his wife, expressing wishes for her death and discussing ways to achieve it without legal repercussions. She also testified that Flynn sent her AI-generated love songs.
Prosecutors allege that Flynn, motivated by a desire to be with Botner, shot his sleeping wife twice in the back of the head and then altered the crime scene to resemble a home invasion. Flynn's defence team has acknowledged the affair but argued in court that it does not equate to murder.
Flynn is also charged with two counts of felonious assault and three counts of tampering with evidence, according to a March indictment. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The trial is expected to conclude by the end of next week and will resume on Monday.
