Jeffrey Mosteller, a 66-year-old former safety manager, has been sentenced to one year and seven months in prison. This follows his plea of no contest to involuntary manslaughter in Oakland County circuit court, Michigan, on Monday.
The sentencing is connected to the death of five-year-old Thomas Cooper, who died in a fiery explosion inside a hyperbaric oxygen chamber in January 2025. Mosteller was the safety manager at the Oxford Center, an alternative healthcare facility where Cooper was undergoing treatment for ADHD and sleep apnea.
According to an expert, a spark of static electricity from a dislodged sheet inside the chamber ignited a flash fire in the oxygen-rich environment. Cooper's mother sustained severe burns while attempting to open the chamber.
Mosteller is one of four former Oxford Center employees charged in relation to Thomas Cooper's death. The other three individuals were awaiting trial at the time of Mosteller's sentencing.
