Explosions were reported overnight in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, according to residents and diplomatic sources. Some blasts were heard in the area of the military headquarters in the west, and another in the south of the city.
These reports came hours after drone flights were banned over Addis Ababa. The incidents follow a week after fighting erupted north of the capital between the army and a new alliance of armed groups, which includes forces from the Tigray region.
A source linked to opposition fighters told the Reuters news agency they were behind what they referred to as drone strikes. There have been no official reports confirming the cause of the explosions, their exact locations, or any casualties or damage.
