A business owner in Falkirk has reported being subjected to racist abuse and a violent attack last month. Police are treating the incident as a hate crime.

  • Dr Zohaib Arshad alleges he was racially abused and attacked on Grahams Road, Falkirk, on Monday 20 July.
  • Police Scotland are treating the incident as a hate crime, with inquiries ongoing.
  • Dr Arshad, a former Alba Party candidate, stated he self-treated his injuries after being told of a 14-hour wait for stitches at A&E.

Dr Zohaib Arshad, a business owner, has stated that a group of men hurled racist abuse at him before punching him and smashing his head into a wall in Falkirk. The incident reportedly occurred on Grahams Road last month when he was visiting one of his takeaway shops.

Dr Arshad, 39, said the group asked him when he was "leaving the country" before launching what he described as an unprovoked attack. He claims he attempted to walk away, but one of the group banged his head into a wall, and he was subsequently punched multiple times.

Police Scotland are treating the incident as a hate crime, and a spokesperson for the force confirmed that inquiries into the attack are ongoing. Dr Arshad stated that it took 45 minutes for officers to arrive after he called them, by which time the men had left the scene.

Following the attack, Dr Arshad said he patched up his injuries with glue stitches after being told of a 14-hour wait at A&E. He also expressed that his children are now fearful of being attacked in school.
