A British couple, Lindsay and Craig Foreman, who have been detained in Iran for more than 20 months, have not had regular contact restored with their family, despite earlier assurances. The couple, from East Sussex, were sentenced to 10 years in jail on espionage charges, which they deny.
Their family stated that regular contact was promised after the couple ended hunger strikes, but consistent calls have not occurred since. The family is requesting an urgent meeting with Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband to discuss potential actions.
The family is also advocating for regular consular visits and a focused strategy from the government to secure the couple's release. A spokesperson for the family indicated that a British consular visit is planned for 5 October, which they say would be only the second visit of 2026. Joe Bennett, Lindsay's son, described the delay in arranging the meeting, particularly after the hunger strikes, as "extremely concerning."
