A disabled man and his daughter have been convicted after a sex worker was murdered and her body was dumped in a canal in West Bromwich. John Anslow, 65, was found guilty of murder, while his daughter, Hayley-Marie Ferguson, 42, was found guilty of assisting an offender and preventing a lawful and decent burial.
Police said Chereiss Bailey was assaulted in Anslow's home before her body was moved in a wheelchair and submerged in the water using a washing line with paving slabs attached. Her body was found on 7 October last year near a waterway off Ryders Green Road.
The court heard that Ms Bailey was last seen on 27 September, entering Anslow's home on Stour Street after meeting him on Great Bridge Street. Prosecutors stated that Ms Bailey sustained facial fractures, bruising, was strangled, and likely bitten to intimate parts of her body during an attack in Anslow's bedroom.
Police said Anslow cancelled his community carers and called his daughter for help the morning after the assault. CCTV footage showed the pair moving Ms Bailey's body in Anslow's wheelchair in the early hours of 29 September before it was dumped in the canal.
Anslow and Ferguson are due to be sentenced at a later date.
