A father and daughter from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, have died after an incident at Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall. The woman, in her 30s, and the man, in his 60s, were pronounced dead at the scene after being pulled from the water.
Emergency services, including the RNLI, police, and coastguard, were called to the beach at approximately 9:45 PM BST on Sunday. An eyewitness praised the "phenomenally quick" response of the crews.
Devon and Cornwall Police are seeking the public's help to locate a missing handbag belonging to the woman. It is described as leather-style, orange or peach in colour with a shoulder strap, measuring about 30cm by 30cm, and is believed to contain items of significant sentimental value.
Ross Macleod, water safety manager at the RNLI, described the deaths as a "tragic reminder around how dangerous open water can be" and advised people to visit lifeguarded beaches and be aware of risks.
