The FBI has announced what appears to be a third arrest in its investigation into the ShinyHunters cyber extortion group, following the group's breach of Bureau systems in late September. The FBI director said agents had arrested another suspected co-conspirator, according to a message posted on X and emailed to reporters.
The New York Times reported that the suspect is a Canadian citizen arrested in Pennsylvania, which would be the first arrest in the United States related to the hack. Two other suspects were previously arrested in the Netherlands and reportedly detained in Jordan.
The breach involved data on agents and people who had applied to work for the FBI, including names, jobs, physical locations and emergency contact information. ShinyHunters claimed it stole data on everyone, though such claims can be inflated to increase extortion demands.
Separately, a second vulnerability discovered by Anthropic's Mythos model has been exploited in the wild. According to The Register's podcast discussion, it is not a bug that humans would probably have discovered.
