FC Sion, a Swiss club that once featured striker Mario Balotelli, is set to undertake a major stadium development costing a reported £420m. The transformation of their 14,200-capacity Stade de Tourbillon will include the addition of a roller coaster, an 80-room hotel, and a retractable roof.
The upgraded venue, to be known as the “Cervin Coliseum”, is expected to increase its capacity by 7,000 for football matches. One side of the stadium will be designed to host concerts, potentially accommodating up to 33,000 fans for gigs.
Construction is anticipated to begin next year, with completion projected within a decade. This development aligns with a trend among European football clubs to enhance their stadiums for year-round business, aiming to boost annual revenue.
