The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has introduced the Global Network Programme, designed to assist UK businesses in expanding into international markets. The initiative aims to leverage British diplomatic expertise to drive growth domestically.

Through the programme, UK businesses will gain insights into target markets, helping them to identify opportunities, manage potential risks, and make informed investment decisions as they pursue international expansion. Participants will engage with diplomats, ambassadors, senior policymakers, and experts from UK academic institutions, covering topics such as diplomacy, security, trade, geopolitics, and emerging technology.

Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband commented that the programme will open up the FCDO's diplomatic expertise to business and other sectors, enabling them to understand geopolitical risk, build international partnerships, and navigate overseas markets. He added that bringing together diplomats, entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers can strengthen Britain's global connections and foster growth and jobs across the UK.

The programme is part of the FCDO's Diplomatic College, which focuses on diplomatic learning and professional development. It also aligns with FCDO2030, the department's plan to modernise and better equip itself to protect UK interests and support British businesses overseas.

Why this matters: The programme aims to strengthen UK economic interests and support British businesses operating internationally, contributing to growth and job creation across the UK.
