The international defence landscape is witnessing an unprecedented surge in interest, as evidenced by the record-breaking growth of FEINDEF 27, Spain's premier defence and security exhibition. With over a year to go before its doors open at IFEMA Madrid on May 18-20, 2027, the event has already surpassed the total exhibition space occupied at FEINDEF 25 by an impressive 25%, demonstrating a resounding vote of confidence from the global defence community.
Organised by the Fundación Feindef, this fifth edition is expected to occupy a staggering 89,000 square metres of exhibition area, marking a substantial 46% increase compared to its predecessor. This expansion reflects the growing demand for international collaboration and business generation within the defence sector, fuelled by evolving geopolitical dynamics and escalating security concerns.
The surge in exhibitor interest is equally striking, with 37% of confirmed participants being new faces at FEINDEF. Notably, a quarter of these newcomers hail from abroad, underscoring the event's growing global reach and its role as a key platform for international dialogue and cooperation. This trend offers promising opportunities for UK defence and security companies seeking to expand their market presence and forge strategic partnerships.
Furthermore, FEINDEF has maintained remarkable loyalty among returning exhibitors, with many increasing their contracted exhibition space by approximately 30% for the 2027 edition. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from the last event – where an impressive 86% of exhibitors expressed their intention to return – cements FEINDEF's reputation as a valuable platform for industry stakeholders.
For the UK, this expansion presents both opportunities and challenges. British defence contractors, innovators, and technology firms could leverage FEINDEF 27 as a springboard to showcase their capabilities, attract investment, and secure international contracts. Given the UK's strong reputation in defence manufacturing and security innovation, increased participation could boost exports and foster strategic alliances, aligning with the Government's focus on strengthening defence ties and economic partnerships post-Brexit. The Department for Business and Trade, alongside the Ministry of Defence, may encourage UK companies to engage with such platforms to secure future contracts and maintain the UK's competitive edge in the global defence market.
